Use your journal to slow the spiral—NOT feed it.

Inside the free cheat sheet, you'll get:

  • The complete SLOW Journaling Method.

  • Simple prompts for each of the four steps.

  • A full 25- to 30-minute practice.

  • A shorter 10-minute version for busy or low-energy days.

  • Helpful language for calming the inner critic.

  • Safety guardrails to keep journaling from becoming endless rumination.

  • A reminder that even the smallest next step still counts.

You don't have to solve your whole life today. You only need a place to begin.

When something painful, uncertain, or life-changing happens, your mind may replay conversations, jump into the future, search for answers, and pressure you to fix everything immediately.

The SLOW Journaling Method gives those thoughts and feelings a simple path—helping you move from emotional noise toward greater calm, clarity, and action.

Still On The Fence?

How long does the SLOW practice take?

The complete practice takes about 25 to 30 minutes. The cheat sheet also includes a 10-minute version for days when your time or energy is limited.

What if I'm not good at writing?

You do not need perfect sentences. You can use short phrases, bullet points, drawings, colours, mind maps, or a private voice note. The goal is expression, not performance.

Will journaling make all the yucky feelings go away?

No—and it should not have to.

The purpose is to give your feelings somewhere safe to go, understand what they may be telling you, and help you decide what you need next.

What if journaling makes me feel more overwhelmed?

Stop writing and return to your body and surroundings.

Feel your feet, look around the room, move gently, drink water, or contact someone safe.

If the experience feels too difficult to hold alone, consider working with a qualified mental health professional.

Psychotherapist & HOST OF IN THE MESSY

Hey, I'm Jan

During one of the darkest mornings after losing my baby, I woke up knowing there should have been a bassinet beside me. Instead, I was home without my son and facing the unbearable task of planning his funeral.

This is not just a method I teach. It is a practice that carried me.

My journal did not make my grief disappear. It didn't answer every question or make that morning okay. It helped me settle my body, give the pain somewhere to go, and become steady enough to take one small step: getting out of bed and brushing my teeth.

I created this cheat sheet because sometimes healing does not look like a giant breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like becoming calm enough to stay with yourself and do the next thing.

XO,

Jan
